چکیده

We discuss the leading asymptotics of eigenvalue splittings of & A + X2V in the limit as X + oo, and where V is a non-negative potential with several zeros. For example, if Eo(A), El(X) are the two lowest eigenvalues in .a situation where V has precisely two zeros, a and b, related by a symmetry, then lim,,, (A)-'ln[E,(X) Eo(h)] is given as the distance from a to b in a certain Riemann metric.

Tunneling for the Robin Laplacian in smooth planar domains

We study the low-lying eigenvalues of the semiclassical Robin Laplacian in a smooth planar domain with bounded boundary which is symmetric with respect to an axis. In the case when the curvature of the boundary of the domain attains its maximum at exactly two points away from the axis of symmetry, we establish an explicit asymptotic formula for the splitting of the first two eigenvalues. This i...

Tunnel effect and symmetries for non-selfadjoint operators

We study low lying eigenvalues for non-selfadjoint semiclassical differential operators, where symmetries play an important role. In the case of the Kramers-Fokker-Planck operator, we show how the presence of certain supersymmetric and PT -symmetric structures leads to precise results concerning the reality and the size of the exponentially small eigenvalues in the semiclassical (here the low t...

Tunneling Estimates for Magnetic Schrödinger Operators

We study the behavior of eigenfunctions in the semiclassical limit for Schrödinger operators with a simple well potential and a (non-zero) constant magnetic field. We prove an exponential decay estimates on the low-lying eigenfunctions, where the exponent depends explicitly on the magnetic field strength.

Semiclassical Analysis of Low Lying Eigenvalues. III. Width of the Ground State Band in Strongly Coupled Solids*

Double well problems appear to be among the easiest tunneling problems to analyze in a rigorous mathematical manner, in part because it is easier to give precise meaning to an eigenvalue splitting than to a lifetime. The first mathematically rigorous treatment of the precise leading order behavior in a tunneling problem is Harrell’s analysis [ 31 of one dimensional double wells. More recently, ...

Resonant tunneling through Andreev levels

We use a semiclassical approach for analysing the tunneling transport through a normal conductor in contact with superconducting mirrors. Our analysis of the electron-hole propagation along semiclassical trajectories shows that resonant transmission through Andreev levels is possible resulting in an excess, low-energy quasiparticle contribution to the conductance. The excess conductance oscilla...
